From the Elementary/Jr. High Ship
By Ed Blankenship, Principal

It is hard to believe that we have sailed through the first quarter of the school year.  The first grading period will end on October 13th, our parents need to be on the look-out for the grade reports that will be sent home on October 17th.  I also want to let our parents know we will be having the Parent-Teacher Conferences on the evenings of Tuesday, October 24th and Thursday, October 26th from 3:30 – 7:00 each night.  I want to encourage all parents to make an appointment to attend and meet with their child’s teacher.

The Jr. High Pirate basketball teams are about to enter into their 2017-18 season.  The Jr. Lady Pirates will start their season on October 11th by participating in the New Simpson Hill Tournament.  The Jr. High boys will begin play on October 16th when they travel to New Simpson Hill.  We want to wish both teams the best in their upcoming seasons.

We received some more good news about a grant to help plant trees on our playground.  Mrs. Reed, with assistance from Melissa Wilson and Brownyn Aly, worked on the Arboretum grant.  The Arboretum grant provides money to purchase and plant trees in areas of need.  Also as part of the playground beautification, we are collecting bottle caps that will be used to recycle into benches.  These benches will be placed near the tree area on the playground.  I know our Elementary Pirates and the staff will be looking forward to having shade in the future.

The Jr. High drama group will be presenting the musical, Cinderella, on Friday, October 20th at 7:00 p.m.  The members of the cast have been practicing, so they will be fully prepared for their performance.

As you can see, October is a busy month for our school.  With the beginning of the Fall, we need to remember to remind our lil Pirates to dress accordingly for the weather.
