Tree Planting at the PCE/Jr. High

The students of Pope County Elementary/Jr. High spent November 20th planting trees on the playground.
In August, Lisa Reed teamed up with Bronwyn Aly and Melissa Wilson to write a grant to purchase trees for the playground. The grant was provided through The Morton Arboretum located in Lisle, Illinois. After securing the grant, plans quickly formed to have a “planting day” at the school.
Roger Smith, a certified arborist delivered the trees to the playground and provided tree planting lessons to all of the students. The students were given “hands on opportunities” to help plant the trees.
Now that the project is complete, many of the classrooms have adopted a tree. They are watering the tree weekly and making sure the mulch is still in place.
We would like to thank Browyn Aly, Melissa Wilson, Roger Smith, Trevor Bennett, Chris Evans, Jack Beck, and Kendra Vaughn for their assistance during planting.
