
The 2016-17 Pope Co. Elementary/Jr. High School Spelling Bee was held on November 17th. A total of 24 students, from grades 3-8, participated in the spelling bee. All of our participants were well-prepared, and did an excellent job representing their respective classrooms. Participants included: (3rd -Jenkins) Hannah Morris, Hunter Steele; (3rd - Schuchardt) Max Ellis, Lily Vinyard; (4th - Dunning) Denise Hancock, Christopher King; (4th - Hungate) Parker Banks, Josie Jackson; (5th - Bramlet) Abigail Janssen, MaKenna Winters; (5th - Arnold) Jacob Vartanian, Ryder Ward; (6-A) Claire Jackson, Claire Shires; (6-B) Julie Parr, Cori Vickery; (7-A) Hunter Apfel, Gavin Lewis; (7-B) Shawna Eubanks, Azlynn Jones; (8-A) Grace Edwards, Cooper Hall; (8-B) Brandt Garrison, Jayden Smith.
Christopher King, Julie Parr, and Shawna Eubanks were our final 3 contestants. After 10 rounds of spelling, Christopher and Julie tied for 2nd place, and Shawna was declared "Spelling Bee Champion." For the championship, Shawna was asked to spell the word "concussion."
Shawna will now have the opportunity to advance to the Tri-State Spelling Bee, which will be held in Evansville, IN in February. We wish Shawna the best of luck as she enters the next level of competition! We would also like to thank all of the parents & family members who attended the spelling bee, our student truly appreciate your support.
