Welcome to my Communication Crew page! I am Janice Wallace, and I am the Speech/Language Pathologist (SLP) for Pope Co. School District.
About Me
I am a Pope Co. native, and attended Pope Co. School District from Kindergarten through high school.
After graduating from PCHS (class of '98), I earned an associate degree from Southeastern Illinois College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences from Southern Illinois University, and a Master of Arts degree in Speech Pathology from Wichita State University (class of 2004).
I currently hold an Illinois professional license for Speech/Language Pathology, as well as the American Speech/Language Hearing (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech/Language Pathology.
I moved back to Golconda, and began working at Pope Co. Schools in 2005. This is my 10th year with Pope Co., and I still love my job.
What I Do
The ability to communicate with others is a crucial skill, and is especially vital for academic and social success. Students who communicate effectively are more likely to excel in reading, spelling, and writing. These students are able to ask questions, participate in discussions, read aloud, socialize with friends, and recognize and repair misunderstandings. They are more likely to be active participants in the classroom and social settings, leading to a more fulfilling experience overall. Speech and language skills seem to come naturally and effortlessly to some students, while others may struggle with one or more areas of communication development.
It is my responsibility to help students become more effective communicators so that they can participate in the academic & social settings to the best of their abilities. I provide a range of services, including prevention, assessment, intervention, and collaboration.
Please see my "Useful Links" section for more information about the Communication program, speech & language development, and parent handouts. Check back often, as I will be continually adding new information.
